A Short, Fictional Extraction (A Novel-ty for me!)

Hey folks!

Something special for you today! (Suppose that’s a matter of opinion though, do let me know either way)

I’m sharing here today an extract from the first chapter of a book I’m working on. It’s only a portion of what happens but it carries a lot of the tone and such that is planned for the whole thing. You don’t need to know anything special, no backstory or anything of consequence, it’s like a self-contained mini/flash-fiction story actually.

I write and dream, for without stories, we are nothing. I am an Inspiration Monster.

“And bloody stay out you wanker!” I can hear the bouncer shout at me over the pouring chubby raindrops beating down on the world. Behind him there is a vague murmur of the few members of the insiders who feel its worth the entertainment and gossip value to watch this little drama unfold.
Beneath me I feel the long-worn cobbles as my palms try with some effort to gain a firm enough hold to lift myself up. With some dilligence and concentration I manage to get on my feet and slowly dance-walk over to my flight engineer still standing under the awning, hands menacingly on his hips – though the wondrous alcohol goggles make me think he has a bit of a pouty little-princess thing going and I barely suppress it into a snorting snickering cough. His big muscles also start to bring images to mind, flashes from my childhood – and like Dorothy, Im there too!
I go up to him with the solemnest face I can make, put a gentle hand on his shoulder and then look up at him and ask, “If you could lend me two dollars for a hamburger today, I’ll gladly pay you back Tuesday!” At which point I start to burst out laughing only to be cut off in mid ‘Ha!’ as I feel a hammer swing into my gut forcing all the air out. And then Im down on the ground again, amazingly just outside the cover of the awning, feeling the rain splatter my gasping frame as I curled up. This guy is good!
