For the holidays I dub thee all…

This is without question my favourite Metallica track ever and one of my favourites of all time. Now yes people have said that its a downer and all that, but I judge music on quality of music and lyrics and this one has aces on all counts… plus at my lowest and most ANTI-EVERYTHING phase it was the song that hit home hard and well as a result still strikes many chords…

[Oh yeah, as an added christmas bonus, heres an awesome piece of artwork that is currently adorning my desktop :)]

So I thought Ill share this track with all a y’all out there:
New blood joins this earth,
and quickly he’s subdued,
through constant pain, disgrace,
the young boy learns their rules,
with time the child draws in,
this whipping boy done wrong,
deprived of all his thoughts,
the young man struggles on and on, he takes,
a vow unto his own,
that never from this day,
his will they’ll take away,
What I’ve felt, what I’ve known,
never shined through in what I’ve shown,
never be, never see,
won’t see what might have been,
What I’ve felt, what I’ve known,
never shined through in what I’ve shown,
never free, never me,
so I dub thee unforgiven…
They dedicate their lives,
to running all of his,
he tries to please them all,
this bitter man he is,
throughout his life the same,
he’s battled constantly,
this fight he cannot win,
a tired man they see no longer cares,
the old man then prepares,
to die regretfully,
that old man here is me.
What I’ve felt, what I’ve known,
never shined through in what I’ve shown,
never be, never see,
won’t see what might have been,
What I’ve felt, what I’ve known,
never shined through in what I’ve shown.
never free, never me,
so I dub thee unforgiven…
(Guitar solo)

What I’ve felt, what I’ve known,

never shined through in what I’ve shown,
never be, never see,
won’t see what might have been,
What I’ve felt, what I’ve known,
never shined through in what I’ve shown,
never free, never me,
so I dub thee unforgiven…
Never free, never me,
so I dub thee unforgiven…
You labelled me, I’ll label you,
so I dub thee unforgiven…

Never free, never me,

so I dub thee unforgiven…
You labelled me, I’ll label you,
so I dub thee unforgiven…

    >aaahhh.. reminds me the inoccent times when this song was my most beloved anthem…too bad.. i grew up to realise what a cliche it was… just like me

  2. The Dude says:

    >true, true, but i realsed that sometimes being a ‘cliche’ wasnt necessarily a bad thing, so long as you didnt get lost in it!

  3. >i think the black album was the last metallica album i’d liked. but the ‘the unforgiven’ is one of my favourite tracks by them. love ‘of wolf and man’, ‘seek and destroy’……oooooooooooooooo ‘enter sandman’ and which was the song now that went ‘darkness imprisoning me, it’s all i can see’ or some such. ONE! ONE it was called.
